Clear Horizon Manure Digester Spill

On November 24, a pipe from the Waunakee Community digester burst and began discharging manure.  The pipe failure released 300,000 gallons of manure.  The impacts of the spill are being monitored by the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department.  The spill was quickly contained and early evaluation of the spill indicate approximately 30 pounds of phosphorus will reach the lake.  This amount is minimal compared to a 1.5 inch rain this past March resulted in 4,450 pounds of phosphorus registering at the same monitoring station.  For more information see:  http://waubesa.org/sites/default/files/Waunakee_Spill_%20memo_PD.pdf
